Heller Stacking Dinnerware? Score!
As I mentioned in my last post, we've been pretty busy since moving up to Atlanta last year, but finally, we made time for some estate sales!
The great thing about sales in Atlanta is that there are so many of them! The downside, to anyone who's familiar with Atlanta, is the amount of time it takes to drive anywhere! So, when scouring www.estatesales.net I find myself looking for sales that really speak to me, and are in close proximity to our home. Two weekends ago, I found a sale that had a decent amount of Mid Century Modern goodies, and decided it was time to end the 'sabbatical'.
Not only did I make Josh get up early on that Saturday morning, but of course it was pouring, so we had to stand out in the rain for half an hour before the sale began. Don't get me wrong, we had umbrellas, unlike some of the other dummies who arrived early, but it was cold and wet.
I had my eyes on some Heller Stacking Dinnerware and a few other retro pieces and Josh's were set on their incredible vinyl collection. You can find records at every estate sale, but they're usually worthless. The collection this homeowner had would have impressed the snobbiest audiophile. Unfortunately, the prices were at minimum, retail, and at best, overpriced. So Josh decided to pass on all those beautiful Ramones, David Bowie and Iggy Pop records...
On the other hand, I pretty much got want I wanted. I snagged a few Heller Stacking Dinnerware pieces along with some other retro melamine dishes and a divided Dansk snack dish. I hesitated on some mugs and plates, but I'm happy with what I got.
If you click on any of the photos below, a new window will open with the listing from our Etsy shop...
If you're not familiar with the Stacking Dinnerware produced by Heller in the 60's, just know this: Massimo and Lella Vignelli - a husband and wife team - designed the award-winning products in a wide range of colors. By utilizing industrial production and materials (a melamine resin), the plates and bowls were made to fit in neat secure stacks, maximizing storage and creating graphic, visually pleasing towers.
The Vignellis won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro Award for Good Design in 1964 for this collection and were later presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in 2003.
Massimo Vignelli's ethos was this, "If you can design one thing, you can design everything." I couldn't agree with him more.

Bitch Bitch Bitch
Well, it's been awhile since we've been active on social media, but with us moving from South Florida to North Georgia, we've been busy, to say the least. Finally hit up a couple of estate sales this week! Feels so good to be back out there pickin!
Picked up some great little finds today. Including this mug which sold as soon as I listed it on our Etsy shop!
I haven't photographed everything I got yet, but I'll post pics of what I do have photographed below. Perhaps my favorite score is a vintage white round American Tourister suitcase. I haven't taken pics of it yet, but I will upload a couple when I get around to it.

Post-Thanksgiving Stroll Through 'The Sugar Chest'
Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving!
We stayed put for once and had Josh's parents and brother down from St. Louis along with my parents and a couple of close friends for Thanksgiving dinner. Linner. Supper. Whatever you wanna call it, it was quite the delicious little feast!
For Black Friday, Old Southern Soul offered our amazing customers 25% off everything in the shop. So between that and Small Business Saturday, we had a pretty good weekend!
After dropping off my in-laws at FLL this afternoon, I cruised up to The Sugar Chest to spruce up the shop. Since returning from my Tennessee trip, I haven't been able to get many of my purchases up to the mall, so I grabbed a handful of goodies to take in before we headed to the airport.
After straightening up the shop and placing my new items, I took a stroll throughout the mall. There's so many interesting things to see at The Sugar Chest, it really is like looking in a chest full of sugar and spice and everything nice!
Here are a few things that caught my eye!
Hope you enjoyed this little photo-tour of the mall! Speaking of tours, I almost forgot! Google Maps did a great virtual tour of the mall for all you out-of-towners! Click here for the link: Virtual Tour of The Sugar Chest
If you're a local, you can only do the virtual tour if you promise to head into The Sugar Chest, Check-In at Old Southern Soul on Facebook and tell me how much you enjoyed the space in real-life!!
Happy December!!
Best,
Angela

While I was out...
Josh must have been reading my blog last week because while I was away, he hit up a few estate sales and brought home some Pyrex!
He found a complete set of Cinderella Mixing Bowls with the Daisy pattern. I'm surprised he picked them up since he's not a big fan of orange or yellow, but I'm glad he did. They're in really good shape and the colors will resonate with my buyers.
And as a bonus, he picked up a 2.5 quart "New Dots" mixing bowl. Super cute!
Good job, Hixey!
Best,
Angela
